Corinthians Wrap-up (for now!)

On Sunday, November 18, the sol cafe will be gathering around 5ish at Cafe Dabar (10816 Whyte Ave) to finish our recent series on Corinthians. There has been enlightening discussion, so we hope you can join us.

The sol cafe *tries* to follow the Revised Common Lectionary, a shared calendar of Bible readings that covers the entire Bible over the course of a three-year cycle. Our readings for this week are:

Proper 28 (33)
November 18, 2007
Isaiah 65:17-25
or
Malachi 4:1-2a
Isaiah 12
or
Psalm 98
II Thessalonians 3:6-13
Luke 21:5-19

There hasn't been a comment in weeks! For shame.

I think we should put up the 'spiritual gift' test up on here for everyone to link too.

The discussion about spiritual gifts on Sunday was eye-opening for me. I have to admit that I never knew there were actual specific "spiritual gifts". As our group had mentioned, I always confused them with talents that God gives each of us.

I also went home thinking it was interesting that the church seems to take these gifts to define the role a person has within instead of taking these gifts to define that church. Our group talked essentially about pigeon-holing people because of the gift they possess and that just seems so backwards to me.

God gives us gifts to change the world around us, not to fit us into a hole that He's dug. A church can't grow if each person isn't able to truly grow in the gifts God gives us.

anyhow - that's just what I was thinking. And I would love to take this test to discover my gift! I had no idea! :)

I agree with this statement, I think (as the speaker of that day), that we need to figure out how that can happen. That is the message I was hoping to come out.

so solsurfer, thanks for the comment, I hope we can discuss this more.
