"The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" which means, "God with us."
Mathew 1:23
How can this be? What a ludicrous thing to believe, that a virgin could concieve a child. Where is the proof? how can we test and verify this, how do we logic it thru? how do we make a new believer accept this as fact and base their life on it?
Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom,

mystery and faith, two words that as a modern society based on good government and scientific proofs do not accept or even like. i love the mystery, i am begining to search for the feeling of void at times, for there i hope in the absence of feeling anything touching me, God will be present. no music, words, discussion or my dread of late - logic.
many want to make Jesus into a "good guy", so perfect that he achieved god like status and we as followers are to emulate him. sounds more like Hinduism (with all respect to my Hindi friends) they have a plethora of gods based on good guys, or conquering kings.
Jesus is good, but that is the thing, "is". We believe in unbelievable things, there is no logic to believing that Jesus was born of a virgin and raised from the dead - let alone the other miracles attributed to him.
i believe part of the Christian journey is to accept and even embrace the mystery surounding Christ. it can't be through logic, as the human understanding is but a crutch waiting to be kicked out from under you.
does God move in the world, is he present at weddings, funerals, births and deaths? does he take part with us as we worship, pray, take communion and baptize new believers? is He enough of a being to move in a way we cannot identify or quantify? isn't it possible that he at least could be more than an idea we have formed? by definition of what a god is - either there is no god or He must be the Lord of Hosts.
look at that, i fall into the logic trap again. my last paragraph in my rant is a logic based argument that i wanted to avoid. i plead humanity,
