the breaking of a fast

On March 26, the sol cafe irregulars gathered at Cafe Dabar to celebrate the end of a six-week long fast. Those of us who were taking part in the fast brought along the object of our deprivation, and there was much snacking and celebrating. A few people also brought along something to share -- a Bible verse, a song, a communion of flowers. There was much worth celebrating, and a few things needing prayer, so together we made a joyful noise unto the Man Upstairs.

passion and community

On Sunday March 19, our theme was God, the sol cafe, and the community. We started the evening with music from our friend Garth, followed by a bunch of our sol cafe regulars sharing about what things drive them, what things they are passionate about, the things where they see themselves making a difference in the world in which we live.

We ended the evening with a 'spontaneous' celebration of communion courtesy of one of our regulars who felt moved to dash out midway through to pick up juice and a loaf of bread. We were joined by several old friends, and one new one, brought together by our desire to get to know God better. It was a good evening.

a sol cafe family meeting

On Sunday March 12, our get-together was a time of reflection on the sol cafe and where we're at as a church. We met away from our usual Cafe Dabar location in order to provide an atmosphere more conducive to "family business." I think it is fair to say that we continue to be very excited with what God has being doing with our little gathering, and look forward to what he has in store in the coming days. Watch for some interesting projects to grow from the seeds planted this night!

a spot of lightness

On March 5, 2006, the sol cafe headed to the Stollery Children's Hospital to help clean up their toy rooms, the latest in the sol cafe's "out there" service services. The crew arrived with high spirits and some donations of toys, and were outfitted with rubber gloves and cleaning supplies in order to give the playrooms in the paediatric oncology unit -- kids with cancer -- a good scrubbing from top to bottom. It's not much to give, but it's something! Please keep these kids, their families, and the amazing group of nurses, doctors and caregivers in that unit firmly in your prayers.
