The Stories of Jesus
Kristen started with a wonderful interpretation of the parable of the " The Rich Ruler" from one of her favorite childhood story books. We had a great discussion on wealth, selfishness, greed and generosity. We also discussed how alone the Rich man appeared to be and we shared how we value our community with the love and accountability it brings. Were the Rich Ruler and Zacchaeus different?

Good Samaritan Renewed
In the story of the Good Samaritan - do we all have characteristics, potential to be, all of the three characters - The Levi, The Pharisee, The Good Samaritan. Who is our neighbor in each of our worlds? What is our Jericho Road?

comfortable with our uncertainty
Sunday, July 9, was a "casual Sunday" at the sol cafe. We gathered around 5ish at Cafe Dabar in order to celebrate communion and spend some time together discussing what had percolated since our last meeting. Our conclusion? Short answer: we're still uncertain how to define who and what we are, but we're comfortable with the uncertainty...

one mustard seed...
The sol cafe gathered on Tuesday July 4 at Cafe Dabar to spend an evening with some special guests.
Phil Wright is a pastor and "lead church planter" with Exchange Community Church in Winnipeg, a "new church plant in Winnipeg's ecclectic Exchange District" (or so says their website!). His church is located in an historic area of Winnipeg, meets in a converted restaurant, and is attracting a "wonderfully diverse group, mostly artists and students and young families" -- sound strangely familiar? And by the by, Exchange Community Church is also "home church" to Cafe Dabar baristo and sol cafe favourite, Brock... hey Brock! It was a great evening of conversation, shared stories, and prayer. We wished we'd taped it. But feel free to join in now, because we know this conversation has only started... Posted by the sol cafe webguy |
