Graduation Night!
On Sunday, April 29, the sol cafe will be meeting initially around 5ish at Cafe Dabar for a shortened "cafe night." During this first hour or so, we'll be reading and discussing the Bible passages from the Revised Common Lectionary (listed below), praying, and generally doing as the spirit leads.
However, we will be clearing out of the cafe earlier than usual in order to join in celebrating the college graduation of Bethany, one of our sol cafe regulars (and currently serving on our steering committee as our missions coordinator). The graduation service will be starting at 6:30 pm (and probably in much prompter fashion than the sol cafe's "Mexico time") at Southside Pentecostal Assembly, 2821 - 109 Street.
If you can join us for both or either gathering, we look forward to seeing you!
If you can't make it out, please join us in spirit by sharing the readings for the week, and feel free to throw your comments into the website!

The dangers of doing church different
On Sunday, April 22, starting around 5ish, the sol cafe will be gathering at Cafe Dabar to discuss a topic that came up the week prior: the dangers of doing church in our untraditional format. This will be part looking back at lessons already learned, part looking forward to see what potholes we can avoid in the road ahead. And we'll also take a look at some of the criticisms that are being leveled at the so-called "emerging church" by various movers and shakers in the "mainstream" Christian world.
And as one exercise in risk-reduction, we will continue to follow the Bible verses outlined in the Revised Common Lectionary:
Hope to see you there!Labels: RCL, weekly

how God may be shaping/reshaping the church
On Sunday, April 15, the sol cafe will be meeting around 5ish at Cafe Dabar to discuss "the larger vision how God may be shaping/reshaping the church." This line of discussion and thought was initiated because of a possible visitor to the sol cafe, who is on a sabbatical to study "emerging churches" in North America.
Also for this Sunday, the Revised Common Lectionary lists the following readings:
Between these two launching points, and the inspiration of God, we trust our time spent together will be most fruitful. Hope to see you there!Labels: RCL, weekly

Easter Sunday Dinner
On Easter Sunday, the cafe where we usually meet will be closed, but fortunately we have an in with the owners. So on Sunday, April 8, we will be meeting around 5ish at Cafe Dabar for an Easter potluck dinner. Drop us an e-mail if you'd like to bring something to add to the table, or just bring yourselves and join in our time together!
Two sets of readings for Easter from the Revised Common Lectionary, one for you to study during the day, one that we'll read when we gather in the evening:
Resurrection of the Lord (Easter Day) April 8, 2007 | *Acts 10:34-43 or Isaiah 65:17-25 | Psalm 118:1-2, 14-24 | I Corinthians 15:19-26 or Acts 10:34-43 | John 20:1-18 or Luke 24:1-12 |
| Easter Evening April 8, 2007 | Isaiah 25:6-9 | Psalm 114 | I Corinthians 5:6b-8 | Luke 24:13-49 |

Palm Sunday at the sol cafe
On Sunday, April 1, the sol cafe will be starting out around 5ish at Cafe Dabar (10816 Whyte Ave) for Palm Sunday activities. The evening's events will include palms, a movie clip, Communion and hopefully music (the walk previously advertised has been canceled due to the inclement weather!). More details to come... maybe...
The readings for this Sunday will be from the Liturgy of the Palms, but since the Revised Common Lectionary offers us a choice, we're listing all the readings in case you want to look over it all.
Hope to see you there!
