Revelations I

On Sunday, May 27, the sol cafe will be gathering at Cafe Dabar around 5ish for an evening of discussion, music, and communion. Kevin will be beginning a series looking at the Book of Revelation, a meaty topic if ever there was one. More details may or may not follow, but please check in!

The sol cafe follows the Revised Common Lectionary, a shared calendar of Bible readings that covers the entire Bible over the course of a three-year cycle. The readings for this Sunday are:

Day of Pentecost
May 27, 2007
*Acts 2:1-21
or
Genesis 11:1-9
Psalm 104:24-34, 35b

Romans 8:14-17 or
Acts 2:1-21

John 14:8-17, (25-27)

Art and Creation

On Sunday, May 20, the sol cafe gathered for a little artistic activity,
creating a group work of art within a context of shared readings and discussion. Here is what resulted:

I'll leave it to the creators to add comments if they so desire!

The readings from the Revised Common Lectionary were as follows:

Seventh Sunday of Easter
May 20, 2007
*Acts 16:16-34Psalm 97Rev. 22:12-14, 16-17, 20-21John 17:20-26

wing and a prayer night!

On Sunday, May 13, starting around 5ish, the sol cafe will be gathering at Cafe Dabar (10816 Whyte Avenue) for an object lesson in faith. We don't have anything humanly planned for this Sunday, so it's a wing and a prayer, and a time-proven faith in God pulling together just what we need for the evening's gathering.

We do know this: the sol cafe follows the Revised Common Lectionary, a shared calendar of Bible readings, so our Bible readings will be as follows:

Sixth Sunday of Easter
May 13, 2007
*Acts 16:9-15 Psalm 67 Revelation 21:10, 22-22:5 John 14:23-29
or
John 5:1-9

So read ahead, if you are able, and bring along your thoughts and inspirations. Or just come as you are, with whatever is on your mind. The spirit will lead and we will follow!

A Service Sunday

On Sunday, May 6, the sol cafe will be holding its monthly(ish) "service service" where our regular Sunday gathering and worship takes the form of rolling up our sleeves and doing some good. This month we will be meeting at the downtown Salvation Army depot (9618 101A Ave NW) to sort food and do whatever other work needs doing.

If you can join us, please meet at the depot at 5 pm and, unlike our usual "Mexico time" approach, you'll need to be relatively prompt because the facility will need to be locked once we're inside. If you've never been before or need a lift, we will also have a couple of volunteers at Cafe Dabar at 5 pm to shuttle people over. Drop us a note if you think you'll need a lift and we'll make sure to watch out for you.

And for those continuing to follow along, this week's verses from the Revised Common Lectionary are as follows:

Fifth Sunday of Easter
May 6, 2007
*Acts 11:1-18 Psalm 148Revelation 21:1-6John 13:31-35

Hope you can join us!
