it started out as an idea...

The sol café started out as an idea brewing in some people's heads. We're not sure who got the idea first (maybe God put the idea in all our heads) but we discovered a few other people who had the same idea, so we started getting together, over coffee, to talk about it.

The idea was this: if we wanted to get to know God better, we'd invite him out for a coffee and have a good talk. After all, that's how we got to know all our good friends.

So we invited a few other people to talk about this idea, over coffee. Those people invited a few other people and, well, you know how it is. Word gets around any time there's good conversation and a decent cup of joe to be had.

Now there are a whole lot of people that get together Sunday nights when they can, around five pm, over coffee to talk about this idea, and other ideas. Some of us also love to sing and make music, so we do some singing and make some music. Some of us love to paint and draw and write, so we share art and poetry. But we all like to talk over a good cup of coffee, so that's what we do most of all — enjoy each others' company, and the company of God.

In fact, we like each others' company so much that one night just isn't enough. So now sometimes we meet on other nights, to watch movies and discuss them, sit down with God and talk with him (or "pray" as church folk call it), to cook, to jam, or just sit around and talk with each other.

In retrospect, we think maybe it was God that invited all of us to coffee, and as one might expect, it was a hard invitation to turn down!

And since you can never have too many people talking over a good cup of coffee, we hope you can join us too!
